FIRE-WALKING PRAYERS (SPECIAL SERIES)

FIRE-WALKING PRAYERS @ SREE MAHA MARIAMMAN DEVASTHANAM

The Sree Maha Mariamman Devasthanam is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Butterworth. Every year the temple will celebrate Theemithi or more commonly known as ‘the Fire-Walking Prayers’ between May to July. Hindu devotees perform the fire-walking ceremony in fulfillment of their vows or for their wishes to be fulfilled.

The festival is a culmination of several religious rituals for Goddess Maha Mariamman within a span of 18-days. It attracts thousands of devotees and visitors of different races to the temple during this period.

It is believed that with purity in heart and clean body, the Goddess will protect the devotees as they walk on fire with ease.
