CHENG LEONG KEONG

CHENG LEONG KEONG

Built in 1886, Cheng Leong Keong (Tai Tay Yah in Hokkien) is a historic temple in Jelutong. Originally a small Hokkien temple, it offered comfort and relief from illness for the people of Penang.

Dedicated to Bao Sheng Da Di, the God of Medicine, the temple is known for its unique fortune sticks. These sticks offer guidance on medical conditions and even suggest remedies. Back in the day, people would visit the temple well for blessed water used in a special cooling powder.

Cheng Leong Keong holds a special place in the hearts of Penang locals. Many, like Cheng Khai Soon, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, have personal stories of seeking help and finding solace here.
